A Catalyst For Change

A Catalyst For Change

How did we get here – Through our work with parents and kids at our local code club we have begun to form an understanding of some of the challenges parents today face when trying to make decisions around their kids STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning journey. There are a number of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math)  learning options out there and combined with the need to understand the underlying technology paradigm involved, most parents find it difficult to work out what path is best for them and their kids. Picking a suitable option to getting their child started on their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning journey shouldn’t have to be this challenging and complex. Parent’s are having to contend with what areas they might consider focusing on, what their kids STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning journey might look like, what sort of tools they might invest in, how long they need to focus on a particular set of tools and what sort of skills are they going to need to support their kids STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math)  learning journey. In reality working through the above challenges can be really daunting especially if you do not have much experience working and are just starting out with your own STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math)  learning journey.

KidzCanCode.com was built to address some of the questions and hopefully over the years we will address many more. At KidzCanCode.com we have been working hard at putting together a lot of these resources as part of the development tracks at our LMS (Learning Management System) which you can access here – https://learning.kidzcancode.com. KidzCanCode.com offers a plethora of free resources for you and your child to get started with their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning, a lot of which are available for FREE and will always remain that way. Getting started with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning has never been more easier. We are in the process of extending our learning offerings through partnering with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math)  subject authors from around the world to develop suitable learning tracks.

What’s our vision – Our vision at KidzCanCode.com is to be a catalyst for change. Focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) skills has been on the increase, especially over the last decade. A major reason for the increasing demand for  STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) skills is due to the fact that most businesses are now increasing going digital and therefore requiring a good understanding of various  STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math)  concepts to be able to support design, build, delivery of those digital services to customers. Expert tell us that jobs of the future will increasing demand the problem solving, structured thinking, analytical reasoning skills as a pre-requisite for being considered as an applicant. The exponential consumption of digital across our global economy is driving fundamental changes in the demand for skills across the marketplace. Even jobs that are not necessarily directly related to supporting or delivering digital services will increasing demand problem solving, structured thinking, analytical reasoning skills. These are skills that can be easily gained through exploring various STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) disciplines.

We see ourselves at KidzCanCode.com as being able to provide kids and parents access to tailored STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math)  learning paths. The resources at KidzCanCode.com are designed to cater to different aspects and styles of learning for kids of all ages. Towards being a catalyst for change we intend to work together with parents empowering them with the information, guidance and support required to make the relevant choice with regards to their child’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning journey.

How will we get there – The learning content at KidzCanCode.com is only the first step in our journey. In addition to providing consolidated (Free, Commercial) learning content parents will also be able to access learning coaches who will be able to provide guidance and support helping parents answer the tough questions and make choices with regards to their child’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning journey. As a social enterprise KidzCanCode.com will put all the revenue generated towards purchase of hardware (learning kits, electronic kits, robotic kits, etc.) that will go to disadvantaged kids. The free courses and content at KidzCanCode.com will forever remain free. From the commercial offerings 60% of the revenue goes toward paying the course author while the remaining 40% goes towards the social challenge being supported by KidzCanCode.com. The revenue sharing mode is designed to ensure that authors continue contributing quality content and provide parents/kids the support required through their child’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning journey.

We are still in the process of working out the community projects KidzCanCode.com will support and it’s something we will attempt to answer in the coming year. We have a long journey ahead of us and you are invited to be part of that journey. We do not have all the answers and a lot of the operational model will evolve as we encounter challenges implementing our vision over the coming years.
