Kidz Can Code was born out of the need to consolidate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) learning resources for the kids code club we run in Melbourne, Australia. Most of the resources used at the code club come from disparate sources accessible all over the internet, some of them structured and some of them not so well structured. One the other big challenges we have also had with the various STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) resources is being able to provide a progression path for kids who are keen have been working with us through multiple school terms. Kidz Can Code was born out of the need to do all of the above and much more.
A lot of the resources provided at Kidz Can Code are free to use and will always remain that way. We however also provide advanced STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) development tracks for kids who are keen to move beyond the free content. In addition to the advanced STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) development tracks for kids we will also be providing bundled hardware kits to make it easy for kids and parents to kick start their journey with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math).
Kidz Can Code intends to be a Social Enterprise. According to Wikipedia, “A social enterprise is an organization that applies commercial strategies to maximize improvements in financial, social and environmental well-being—this may include maximizing social impact alongside profits for external shareholders. Social enterprises can be structured as a for-profit or non-profit, and may take the form of a co-operative, mutual organization, a disregarded entity, a social business, a benefit corporation, a community interest company, a company limited by guarantee or a charity organization. They can also take more conventional structures. Social enterprises have both business goals and social goals. As a result, their social goals are embedded in their objective, which differentiates them from other organizations and corporations. A social enterprise’s main purpose is to promote, encourage, and make social change.”
In the coming articles we will provide details on the vision for Kidz Can Code and the social change we want to be a catalyst for.
